Way more affordable then taking a university art class! I was off work and decided to try my hard learning portraits and stumbled across this place. Its fully local, run by two very friendly incredibly talented locals with an impressive list of achievements. Including professional teaching, and galleries.

All canvas and materials are included, and snacks! I've seen little kids to adults, learning how to draw, do watercolour, paint, everything! They even host paint nights for families or businesses, date nights, etc

I would consider myself an ‘emerging/beginner’ artist and was seeking out some formal instruction with feedback and advice for things like contrast, tone, blocking in, and light and shadows. I spent an entire day with Fred and learned so much! This is an inviting atmosphere, the instruction was patient. He was very good at explaining when I had questions as well as demonstrating when I was struggling. I will return for more one on one instruction and hope to attend some of the other group sessions. I am a professional level artist, and even I have learnt so much from being at this studio.

It is evident that Fred has a strong passion for art and his students. He is truly dedicated to your growth as an artist, and has tips and tricks for anyone at any level, any medium, any style. Even as an advanced artist who has a very specific and established way of doing things, I am still learning something new every class, and I can see that reflected in my work in both my digital and traditional art. In the 7 months I have been attending, I have learnt to master a completely new medium that I have never done before, as well as gained valuable advice on how to advance the skills I already possess.

The other reason I come back to this studio every week is because it truly feels like a second home. Both Fred and Sandra care so deeply about everyone that attends, and are some of the nicest and down-to-earth people I have ever met. They are so accommodating, flexible, and kind, and really want everyone to succeed both inside and outside the studio.

Based on my wide exposure I can say the Farhad is an extremely knowledgeable instructor in the arts. I signed up for watercolor classes with Mr. Fred, and I’m very happy I did. The studio feels super cozy and welcoming, it’s got this creative, homey vibe that makes you want to paint all day. It’s a family-run studio, and both Fred and his wife, Sandra are amazing artists who make everyone feel comfortable.

Each class comes with really good-quality supplies, and every time I go, I learn something new, different techniques, new ways to look at colour, and just how to enjoy the process more. Fred is such a kind, funny teacher. He tells great stories, cracks jokes, and somehow keeps you learning without it ever feeling intimidating.

They even keep snacks and drinks out for students, which is such a nice touch. One evening, Sandra lit a candle for me before heading out and leaving me with Fred for class, such a thoughtful little moment that made me feel really welcomed and showed how much they care about everyone who comes here..

If you’ve ever wanted to try water colour or any painting classes they offer , I can’t recommend them enough. Great prices, great supplies, the best atmosphere with the most talented teachers.

Run - don't walk - to take lessons through Urban Art Studio 101! The instructors, Fred and Sandra, are very compassionate and welcoming people. You feel right at home as soon as you walk in. I was a beginner wanting to engage in some kind of creative outlet, so no experience is necessary.

Both instructors have decades of experience and are extremely competent in a wide variety of art forms. They take on both children and adult students, as well as offer group classes and workshops.
